Welcome

Welcome to the Birds of Passage documentary film website! Birds of Passage is a documentary in progress about three young Uruguayan songwriters and the ways that music connects people to places. We finished shooting in December 2006 and currently we are fundraising to finish post-production. All donations are tax-deductible through our fiscal sponsor, Documentary Educational Resources. Please go to the Donate page of this site for more information on how to support us. If you have any questions, please email Rachel at info@honeycombfilms.com.

About the trailer

The short trailer (3 m 20 s) that is on this site currently was created for a presentation at the Silverdocs/ AFI International Documentary Film Festival and Conference in June 2007. It was designed to be viewed alongside a verbal pitch of the project, and is intended to show the visual style of the film and the musical style of the musicians. It presents three condensed scenes, one with each protagonist, and the original music of each one is heard alongside the images of his or her life.

In this trailer you'll meet: Victoria, in a scene from close to the beginning of the film, when she has just returned to Montevideo after living in New York for 5 years; Yisela, in a scene from near the middle, after she has already received a grant to record her first album, when she is considering moving to Argentina to be with her boyfriend and seek economic and artistic opportunities; and Ernesto, in a scene from near the end of the film as he prepares for a live performance.

Currently we are preparing a new version of the trailer that shows more of the film's overall narrative arc. The copyrights to all of the music heard on this site are held by the composer(s) to which it is credited.
